Description

t's an homage to Andy Warhol's Marilyn Monroe & Campbells soup can prints. She is to the Campbell's soup can woman as I (or anyone of my generation, really... I just picked myself because I'm so devoted to my iPod) am to the iPod generation. Thus the serial image of the ipod in pop-y colors... and the emphasis on eyes & mouth. I modernized the look of the eyes with the glasses and made the mouth less perfect than Ms. Monroe's. The overall idea was to take something originally thought of as the pop art concept of beauty and make it into something more modern and relatable without losing the pop art effect.

I think I achieved my concept but in a very amateur way. The only thing I'm not happy with is a few of the cuts I made that were just poorly done (most of which you can't see directly) and the fact that the face is a bit awkward. I blame that on my lack of skills in cutting; the shape was skewed from how I drew it because it was my first time working with any of the saws and I just didn't know how to go about working on them. You live and learn, I guess! I also feel like it could have benefitted from a border so that when viewed from the side (as it is intended to be viewed 180 degrees) it wouldn't feel unfinished or neglected. Overall I'm kindof... not apathetic. Not perfectly happy but for my first time ever working in the third dimension I would say it's not half bad. I may stand corrected.

For Foundations II (Woodworking) freshman year of college. Plywood, printed paper & acrylics.
